There’s a moment in Flashdance where the character Jeanie (Sunny Johnson) is at a skating competition/tryout/audition– it’s never quite clear. We’ve seen her rehearse.  We’ve seen her with her parents.  We know how they feel.  We see the parents in the audience.  The Father acts like your typical 80’s fatherly curmudgeon.   Jeanie comes out to Laura Branigan’s “Gloria” and skates her heart out.  Then she falls.  She falls and this is her big moment because….reasons!  The Father bites his knuckles.  She gets up and continues on.  Then she falls again.  Devastated she stays there. Alex (Jennifer Beals) and Richie (Kyle T. Heffner), Jeanie’s boyfriend, stumble out onto the ice and help her off.  It’s heartbreaking. At the same time,…
