Creating the Perfect Online Gaming Space

For the person who loves nothing more than gaming online, having a dedicated area that allows them to step out of reality and into their own digital world is a dream.

The thought of having that unique room in our home, designed solely around a love of gaming is fantastic. However, some people aren’t fortunate enough to have the space within their property to do so. However, there are plenty of options within the existing rooms that can give you a place to play. Some of the biggest gaming names in the world started out with gaming spaces, rather than dedicated rooms.

Ninja, who is one of the most well-known faces in gaming, known for his love of Fortnite, started out in his bedroom. Now he streams to over 24 million people on YouTube, which has led to huge financial rewards. Meanwhile, Chris Moneymaker, is a poker player who won the World Series of Poker success in 2003 playing No-Limit Texas Hold’em out of his basement. All he had was a computer, a desk and a chair, and yet he became a millionaire. Whilst your gaming space might not create a poker boom like Moneymaker did, it could still be a great space to go all-in on your casual gaming.

Location

This isn’t simply about which room in the house you use, remember to play online you need to have access to your router. Whilst most Wi-Fi routers are powerful enough to give you coverage across the home, you need to ensure you’re in a place where it transmits reliably enough to your computer to stay connected to your game of choice. Beyond that, you need to then consider the impact on others in the house if you’re a particularly vocal player. Other people in the home will be aware of your passion for gaming, but they might not want to hear you whilst you’re in the midst of battle, or you may need that solace to concentrate on your next hand.

Theming

Have you thought about the theming and color scheme you want to bring to your gaming area? Are you affording enough space to change the décor so that it doesn’t clash with the rest of the room you’re in? Take a look at some alternative imagery for the walls, maybe of iconic gaming moments like the first time that Pacman and Mrs. Pacman met. If you do like that splash of color and want to continue a classic game theme, then how about a light made to look like a combination of blocks from Tetris too? Theming your gaming corner is very important as it makes it personal to you.

Furniture

Being a gamer often means you need a lot of peripherals, and one way to make your space unique is by having an entertainment center specifically to store your devices. You may want to have this behind cabinet doors to hide away your screens if you live in a busy household when you’re not playing. What about if your gaming setup doubles up as an office desk, think about storage that could house everything all in one place.

It’s impossible to cover all the options for the gamer to have their own space in a busy home. But with a little creativity, it’s possible to have a little place to call your own. Whilst having a gaming space may not lead you to a win on the level of Chris Moneymaker or Ninja, there’s no doubt that you’ll enjoy having your own little oasis dedicated to gaming.
