When you are a working mom it can very hard to retain or regain your confidence and your sense of identity. You have spent a long time caring for others, looking after them when they are sick and being there every time they need you, but what about you? While you have been excelling at being a mom, you have possibly lost your confidence in the process and this is no good for you or for anyone in your family unit. When you lose your confidence, you become a shell of your former self, you lose your purpose, and you can even lose your drive and determination for life and everything in it. Getting back your confidence is crucial, especially when you are a mom who is intent on setting a good example. So, what can you do and what should you be doing to regain and boost your confidence as a working mom? Making changes today can positively impact your future, so, don’t put off changes for any longer.
Finding the Right Balance
One of the reasons you lose your confidence is you try and do too much for far too many people. When you spread yourself too thin, you basically become more like an automated robot trying to please all of the time, as opposed to a human being trying to do their best. Your family and your friends, and anybody else who needs you within their life, will understand that you need to look after yourself, as well as look after them. If they cannot understand the high importance of this, then you need to evaluate their role and their importance within your life. You need to achieve a balance between work, rest, play and other commitments. If you do not work towards achieving a better balance for yourself and for your family sooner rather than later, then you will end up running yourself into the ground.
Don’t Push Yourself Too Hard
When you are a working mom, you can struggle with how much to work and when. You can find that you push yourself too hard and you strive too hard for perfection. When you push too hard, something has to give eventually, and this could be the relationship with your children or your working relationships. Your confidence can take a massive hit when you push yourself too hard. Your focus and attention shifts, and when this happens it can be hard to regain control. So, when you think about doing extra or more work, think about the potential side effects. Working when you are tired or trying to do other activities when you are pushing yourself too hard can result in mistakes being made. When you make mistakes, it can and will affect your confidence.
Practicing Self Appreciation and Self-care
You have to love who you are and what you have to offer. If you do not practice self-appreciation and self-care, then how do you expect to have any level of confidence? When you appreciate what you have to offer, both in your working life and in your role as a mom, you realize that you have a lot to be confident about. Instilling confidence and maintaining confidence will not happen if you do not love, care and appreciate yourself. So, start practicing self-care today. When you look around you will see that self-care is more mainstream than you realize, for example self care for nurses and other care professionals is practiced professionally, and self-care for teachers and other educational professionals is instilled from the start of training and employment. When you realize that other professionals who care for children are practicing self-care, it definitely gives you the green light to move forwards.
Quality Time over Quantity Time
You can regain and build your confidence by realizing that quality over quantity matters more than anything, especially when it comes to spending time with your children. Your children love you and they appreciate the time they spend with you, no matter when it is or how short it is.
Establish Your Identity
When you are busy working, it can be hard to remember who you are. Your identity is important and when you realize this, your confidence levels will sky rocket. Establishing your sense of identity and establishing what makes you, YOU, is critical. If you cannot ascertain who you are both on the surface and deep down then how can you expect to be a confident, and self-assured individual?
Focus on the Positives in Your Life
Of course, knocks within your everyday life can affect your confidence levels and this is why it is important to focus on the positives in your life as much as you can. You have a lot of good stuff going on within your life, especially as a mom, so, try and harness these positives to build your confidence levels.
Loving Yourself
You are totally unique and you are totally individual, and the sooner that you realize this, the better you will feel and the more confident you will be. If you do not love yourself already, then you need to start focusing on this as soon as you can. Loving every part of your personality and even your looks will boost your confidence, so start by looking in the mirror for a few minutes each day and focusing on what you really love about yourself and why. Simple mantras spoken or followed each day can really boost your confidence and help you regain confidence that may have been lost somewhere down the line.
Time for Yourself
Yes it can be difficult to get, but finding time for yourself is important. Having at least 5 minutes to yourself every day is important, and if you cannot snatch this time to yourself, then you may find it difficult to love yourself and subsequently build or regain your confidence. Regaining your confidence and building your confidence is not something that will happen overnight, but give yourself time, put in the effort and you will start to see and feel the results.
