What to Do After a Painful Fall

People of all ages can experience a fall. For example, they could fall over a trip hazard at work, or it might be due to a health issue, such as dehydration, a heart condition, inner ear problem, or Parkinson’s disease.

Also, a person’s risk of experiencing a fall will increase as they grow older due to balance issues, muscle weakness, or a chronic health issue, such as low blood pressure or dementia.

The steps you take after a fall can determine your injury level and pain, which is why you must avoid mistakes following an accident. If you don’t want to exacerbate an injury, read the following advice on what to do after a painful fall.

Pause After a Fall

It might feel tempting to quickly get back onto your feet after a fall due to embarrassment or pain. However, you must pause for a moment and take some deep breaths before you attempt to stand up. It will help you recover from the shock of the accident.

Also, the break will provide time to identify if you’re seriously injured, as moving too soon or quickly could aggravate an injury. If you believe you’re okay, attempt to roll onto your side, rest for a moment, and use your hands and knees to get to your feet or crawl to a chair for extra support.

Seek Medical Attention

It’s a wise decision to seek medical attention after a fall, especially if you’re a senior. Even if you feel fine, you may have sustained a back injury that won’t immediately show symptoms. If you fail to consult a doctor, you might realize you’re seriously injured later on. Also, if you hit your head during a fall, you must get yourself checked out by a physician.

Turn to Cold and Heat Therapy

Cold therapy will minimize pain and swelling following an injury, as it can decrease inflammation in the body. After a fall, apply a cold pack to the injured area right away and hold it for 10 to 20 minutes per time, three or more times throughout the day. After three or four days, apply heat to the area to ease pain and improve mobility, as it will increase blood flow to the injury site.

Identify the Best Treatment Option

If your pain and discomfort can’t be treated with at-home care alone, you must identify the best treatment option for your needs. If you have sustained a spinal cord injury, you might turn to traditional treatments to ease your pain and then improve your mobility, such as physical therapy, spinal mobilization, or invasive surgical procedures. However, they will each have downsides to consider that may slow down your recovery time.

Look for the most effective treatment option in terms of outlook, duration, and complexity. You could benefit from a unique, minimally-invasive spine and disc treatment from bioxcellerator.com, which will relieve spinal cord injury pain, lower your infection risk, and support a rapid recovery.

Get to the Root Cause of Your Fall

If you don’t know the reason behind the fall, you must identify how it happened, as an underlying health condition might have caused an accident. In addition to seeking medical attention to review any physical injuries, you might need to undergo various tests, physical exams, or scans to get to the root cause of your fall.
